You've all got a lot in your mind. I hope you carry this story to the other people who may have also heard statements, and you can repeat what Mel said here today. I've just been in touch with Mr. Maselli here by a snake yesterday. He had just come from the hospital. The boy is in critical condition. I apologize to Mr. and Mrs. Maselli for what the child at the time has happened. This was not true.

He wants to get up here again, too, because he has... He's from Germany, and a dozen people here from long distances around the world, from 43. It's great to see all of your faces, some of them shining, not so shining, some. Some a little gritty and dirty, too. And George Van... ...to him, persisted, and held these events, sometimes at great cost to himself. Yes, I can hear the echoes in the background about the great piles of money he makes out here,

but I don't believe it. I've known the man. He's been around a long time, and he doesn't show any great wealth. But one thing he has done, he has persisted. Put on these... Yes, we even have a lot of cooks come up here, such as myself, to tell you some strange things. But George must be thanked, I believe, by all of us for this annual... ...can all get out of here, which he doesn't like.

...correctly, back in 53, is where I met him, as I met many others, including George Adamski, who is now deceased. I met a great many people. I met a great many people at that time, and I do believe there are people in the UFO field that were here then, at the Hollywood Hotel, that have said it was the greatest flying saucer convention ever held. Now, greatest in this had newcomers to the belief that there were interplanetary visitors, and their information, as they must do very much today, the same thing. But some of the astounding tales of that period have never been surpassed. It would amaze you.

Meet the people. ...over the fire department, the police department all rushed in to close us off, because they claimed we were overcrowding the building. At one time, folks, we couldn't even get the lecturer up the elevator. They were so crowded. All three elevators were jammed. Now, there was an unfortunate experience at that time. ...publicity. People from all over the Midwest and all over the country heard about it and came in to argue with this man. But there was a tremendous interest shown. George Adamski and his efforts in Chicago, his publisher said that our attempts to put him on radio and TV and public exposure had literally made his book the international bestseller that it became. I took my hand and I said, where's my bit? Well, we can't do anything about that. But strangely enough, these publishers have always done that in this field.

You can do anything for them, and they rake in all of, everything that goes with it, but they never return but very small, minute quantities, including the authors. So that's why many of these authors in the UFO field folks have gone to publishing their own books. Please don't condemn them for it, whether it's even a kooky book. Don't condemn them for it. These people have had to pay for their way, too, and have made any fortunes off the UFO story. Nobody has made a fortune. There are sidewinders that have made it. There are publishers that have made it on the side.

But the people involved with the contacts and the stories and the information haven't made a thin dime, from my viewpoint. Now, even if they did, and if they did make $3,000 or $4,000 to get there, it took them time to tell you the story. And how do you think they ate in between if they did not have a job at the same time and they were trying to give you that information? There's another factor in the UFO field that many people have overlooked. Do you realize that a source of research or of any repute, and there are many, are literally jangling off the walls with a request of people to tell me this or tell me that, and it's the same old story over and over and over again. For instance, on women, they have a tendency to get a little bit dizzy after a while,

repeating the same things to the same people all the time, or the same type of thing, if you're really interested in the UFO field. Get together and listen to what is... being said. It's a very important what is being said, and what the individual is telling you. People who have information. Now, this is entirely correct, but the pressure has, from my experience, always been rather hidden. ... could afford at this time, I believe in the future, to publicly...

And then these fingers of light all reduced down to two gigantic fingers of light and angled out into a massive V.

Put on a broadcast that they repeated at least a dozen times on the networks with the actual broadcast of when those lights came on and what took place that night over that on the lake. A country that did anything but that. Lake contact is a flop, people. If you hear something that sounds completely outstanding, like the man that drove down this road ten minutes ago and later you hear that he had a contact down that road,

don't wipe it off as a phony story because you didn't see it. New phase of operations. Coming along in the UFO field. Yes, we have our people coming out here talking about old times and all of the sightings we've had and some of them of the great fear of the FBI and intelligence, central intelligence. They're even fabricating a lot.

Listen to them and understand them and know what is going on. And when, if you do, in the very near future, my personal opinion now is involved. I haven't anything to document this. It's just a personal opinion. I do believe that there was... Within the next 10 to 15 years, I would say that the entire planet

and all the peoples on it will have that liaison. This, I doubt very much. They will be involved in this in the initial stages. I think it will be many years yet. There might be some important information of what he's discussing that you know nothing about.

Again, to all of you, and you, the newcomers, and to you, George Van Tassel, I take off my hat and I offer you my hand. To you, John Otto. Well, in recent times, we've had many, many other individuals in and around the San Francisco area have taken pictures of this certain UFO in the sky.

Motion pictures and 8mm film were also taken of this particular UFO. Of 30 days from the time that picture was taken, men impersonating federal officers and impersonating Air Force investigators would knock at the doors of all these people, and tell them in no uncertain terms that this is your American heritage.

This is your American duty for you to turn over to us every picture you have ever taken, including the one that appeared over San Francisco. Now, some people today, when they see a badge, or when they see a man come to their door in an Air Force uniform, suddenly their knees turn to water,

and people have been convinced against their will that for the good of the people, for the good of the government, it was their duty to turn over this information to the officer or the individual making this impersonation. Well, this got so bad, that not just in the state of California,

but many other states in the Union, people were being forced to turn over all photographs, all information, all written documentation about certain UFO sightings that occurred in their general vicinity. And so,

this was the first time, in the general vicinity, it got so bad, that the Department of the Air Force had to release this letter. And I'll let you see this at our table, if you'd like to see it later on. The letter was sent out to all Air Force,

Strategic Air Command, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, all military units in the continental United States. The letter is signed by Lieutenant General Hewitt Wayless, from the Office of the Chief of Staff in Washington, D.C. The letter reads something like this. Information not verifiable

has reached headquarters, United States Air Force, that persons claiming to represent the Air Force or other defense establishments have contacted citizens who have sighted UFOs. Some reports claim that individuals in civilian clothes

represent themselves as members of the North American Defense, or NORAD, demanding and receiving photographs belonging to a private citizen. In other words, what the General is saying, that his department,

or the Air Force in general, never has, in any way, shape, manner, or form, demanded and received photographs from any private citizen of unidentified flying objects. Now, it got so critical for a while

that some leading magazines have printed this letter so that if anyone knocks at your door and tells you it's your American citizen to give up your information and to give up your photographs, you tell them to go and see Frank Stranges. Not to see me, I'll just,

and we'll find out, white milk. How many of you remember the horse that was destroyed seemingly by radiation, the horse by the name of Snippy? Do you remember that incident where just recently Snippy was the Appaloosa horse

that after the autopsy was performed, they found out that its abdominal, brain, and spinal cavities were absolutely empty. It was severed from the rest of the body. According to the first report, it looked like the horse was definitely killed by lightning.

Now, why they said it was killed by lightning, we have no idea. Because the medical experts on the scene stated without any fear of exaggeration that the horse's neck was cut in such a manner that would testify to the fact that it was done at the hands

of a skillful surgeon. The other information that came out just recently was that they did find tracks around the dead horse, and they found an area burnt black and slightly radioactive anywhere from 45 to 50 feet in diameter.

Brother, that's really going somewhere. And the horse's body was first found on the perimeter of that burnt black circle. Now, without going into the fear aspect of this thing, I think we can safely decide that the horse was killed because it got too close.

And the reason this information, as it happened, was never released to the public was because of the fear of mass hysteria. Well, they used to tell us this years ago. They used to tell us that the reason we cannot tell people that UFOs could be coming from up there

is because of the fear of mass hysteria. Now, if you folks are going to get hysterical, please do so before it gets dark, because after dark we have a few problems. Let's get back to your hometown. How many of you have come from cities and states in the state of California? Cities and towns in the state of California?

May I see your hands, please? How many of you have come from outside the state of California? Arizona, from radio station KTKT. We're playing in. On my left. He has been to Tucson, Arizona. We have some other friends from Salt Lake City,

some other people from Ohio. A very fine gentleman who's a member of our committee. Who is a registered architect. Has come clear from Ohio to be with us today. Now, the reason I'm bringing this out is because here we have a cross-section of different individuals, different type backgrounds and environments,

all interested in unidentified flying objects. Now, you know the people in your town. You know your neighbors. At least some of you do. And you happen to have an idea of how people react. And this is the type of question that I've been asking in auditoriums and colleges and universities

all over the world. The very question I'm going to put to you now. Today is Sunday. It's about quarter past one. Now, what would happen if you, next Wednesday, this coming Wednesday, at 12 o'clock noon, you happen to be driving around the downtown section

of your particular city. And suppose, a 50-foot in diameter craft that was shaped like a flying saucer started to descend right downtown in your particular city. Right near City Hall, if the lawn is big enough to accommodate it.

Now, suppose that this aerial craft would land right in front of the City Hall, if there's room, if not the nearest large parking lot. How many of you who are here today think that you would run or walk toward the object? May I see your hands?

How many of you think you might run the other direction? I see two or three hands. Some of you still haven't moved. How many of you say, honestly, I don't know what I do, but I'd be willing to find out? Okay.

Now, this is the year 1968. Since 1945, not 47, but 45, the predictions have been that next year, there's going to be a big flap over the United States. Since 1945,

we've had about seven major flaps of UFO sightings in different states of the Union. This is 1968. We're approaching 1969. Some prophets will get up in front of the microphone and say, next year,

there's going to be such a flap of UFOs that you can hardly see the sky. Now, that to me is just a wee bit far-fetched. Unless you find yourself down in a tunnel someplace looking up to one little hole. But we're talking about next Wednesday,

this coming Wednesday. If something like this did happen, you have an idea, most of you, how you would react. But what about your neighbor? What about your minister or your rabbi or your priest? What about all the other religious people in town

who think that you're going to go to a devil's hell because you believe in flying saucers? Huh? What about these other individuals who tell you that you commit a mortal sin by coming to Giant Rock on a Sunday morning and sitting under the hot sun

to get your brains baked while listening to someone who doesn't know what they're talking about in the first place? Do you think if these people saw a flying saucer that they would panic? In West Point, Mississippi, some people did panic.

A round object came down in the evening sky. All of a sudden, everybody disappeared into their homes, only to reappear out of their homes, and some had rifles, some had handguns, one fellow had two hand grenades,

surplus Thompson submachine gun, and the other people who had no firearms came out with sticks, stones, pipes, pieces of sticks, pieces of long lead pipes, all kinds of things, rakes, holes, anything they thought they could do,

anything they thought would make a dent on this round object that floated down from the night sky. They elected a captain real quickly. He was the one with a double-barrel shotgun. They said, George, you get right up there. We'll be behind you

while you go right ahead and we're going to get these people. They proceeded to move against this round object that had landed on the ground. Suddenly, he heard a voice from behind this tree, the voice of a female saying,

Go ahead, George. Go get them. We're behind you. Of course, he turned around. He couldn't tell quite how far behind him they were, but they were back there someplace. Nevertheless, they surrounded the object,

and George very deliberately put those shells in place in the shotgun, the gun aimed at the object, and he shouted with a voice of authority, Come on out! Nothing happened. The voice of the man behind the other rock says,

George, tell him again. Maybe he didn't understand you. All right. He tried it again. He motioned everybody to silence, and here the round remained on the ground. Suddenly, someone noticed that there was some writing on the object.

They said, George, there's some writing on that. And some other observer said, Yeah, but it's all covered with dust. We can't read it. And then the third party suggested, George, go wipe off the dust so we can read the writing.

He says, You come and wipe it off. I'll hold the gun. The report didn't quite say, Go wipe the dust off, but somebody did. George walked up to this object, read what it said,

put his gun in two o'clock, and said, Finally, everybody joined together, ran to the object, and someone loud and clear read the following words. Property of General Mills, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

And I thought when we got this report, is this, by any two-way stretch of the imagination, a typical American welcome? We were in London some months ago, last November, in fact. And the reaction that we received from the crowd at Caxton Hall was fantastic. We saw that people there,

just like the people in Finland, Germany, and other points, Stockholm, Sweden, were all vitally interested in knowing what can we do to bring in this advent, if there is such a creature, as an advent of the new age. We've often wondered this,

and you've asked yourselves, Okay, we buy books, we read books, we write books, we listen to radio programs. Now we're starting a television series. We see UFO motion pictures in the theaters. Some have got great big monsters,

and others have good guys, and the others have we don't know what kind of guys. But what are we going to do with all this information? What are you going to do as an individual with all the information you've heard expounded by the various speakers that you've heard during this two-day period? What can we do?

How many of you definitely believe that there is a new age upon us? Say, aye. Aye. But you look around you, read your paper. Let's follow the example of Wernher von Braun and see if we agree with him.

He was asked by reporters, Do you think there's life on other worlds? He said, Yes, I believe it's possible. And he said, Can you relate the life on other worlds to life on this planet? What do you think? He said, It's my thesis

to be an egotistical fool to think he's the only intelligent being in the universe. And he said, I'll add something to that. He said, It is further my thesis that this planet Earth is the insane asylum of the universe. And the reporter said, What do you mean? He said simply this,

If you don't think this is the insane asylum of the universe, read your newspapers, watch your radio, watch your television, and just open your eyes and look at what's going on around you. And then in the middle of all this confusion, you and I say and believe

that we are approaching the new age. Ladies and gentlemen, any person, you don't have to agree with one thing that you hear me say today. Any man who would look around himself today and look at world conditions and say that we are presently, right now,

at the mountaintop of the new age is either blind, deaf, and dumb, or insane. But there are some individuals that are experiencing a super utopia right in the middle of all this confusion that's going on around the planet. We look at the political scene and we see a man running for the presidency

of the United States by the name of Richard Nixon. This man knows about UFOs. He knows about this fellow Valiant Thor who was at the Pentagon for three years. He met him personally. He knows all about this, and yet not one word has passed his lips

about these things. Another man running for the presidency who is presently the vice president of the United States, promising all kinds of things, and at the same time calling the other two candidates all kinds of names.

And then we have the third party gentleman by the name of Mr. Wallace. He comes up, and he's calling these other two fellows a liar because he alone has the truth. I heard him say this in Portland, Oregon. And here sits the new age individual like you and I.

We believe in UFOs. We believe in intelligent beings out there. And we go to bed every night with not one guarantee on Earth that we're going to see the blue sky the following morning. And we wonder, what does it all mean?

Does it mean that someday in the very near future, that if we are able to establish actual physical contact with people from other worlds, that they may come here at our invitation and help set this world in order?

Is this a possibility, or are we still a peace pipe trying to establish what we believe among us ourselves, not worrying what we believe about the folks out there? And then we have gentlemen who come to the platform

who have claimed personal physical contact with people from other worlds. We're challenged on television by the Joe Pines of this world. They call us every name in the book and then some. And yet there's some driving, motivating force within our soul

that causes us to refuse to be budged one inch or another. And yet we must plow ahead and seek that everlasting truth that, as the speaker said before, might and can set men and women free. United States government,

but other world governments that are suppressing and preventing the truth of these actual contacts coming to pass. We have some of the most outstanding events taking place in all history. For instance,

when Valiant Thor spoke to the United Nations, we didn't hear too much about this. Joe Pearson was going to say something about it, but they told him to be quiet. You say, you can't shut him up. I've got news for you. Under the present regime,

any person who must be silenced can be silenced. It's happened before. I made just a quick, not a thorough, I shouldn't even tell you about this, but I will. I made a quick investigation

over the past 20 years of these UFO people in the field who have died mysteriously before their time. Case in point, watching a television program that he had pre-taped in Washington, D.C.,

suddenly is found dead in a hotel room. Cedric Allingham photographs a UFO coming down in Scotland, confers with a gentleman who claims to be from Mars, suddenly up and dies of a heart attack,

and yet there's no history of any heart condition, whatever, in that man's life. Meeting untimely demises and tell the world the truth about what's going on. 1968 in Giant Rock, California, wondering what step to take next.

Where do we go from here? Many of you are wondering, who am I going to vote for in November? What can I do to bring in a better regime, a better way of life? Ladies and gentlemen, I have found this

in my personal experience. And I'm going to pass it on to you. You cannot change your neighbor. You cannot change your town. You cannot change your country. You're going to have to change yourself first. Does this make any sense to anybody?

When we analyze ourselves and bring ourselves under subjection and cause the stringent rules and regulations applied to ourselves first, and then do not try to pattern other people according to you, because God help us

if we try to do that. But then try to let our light so shine before people that they may look at us and see that, by golly, that fellow or that girl has really got something. And I'd like to have

what they've got. Some people fall apart in the midst of an emergency while other people have learned the secret of standing firm and letting the emergency take place and not fall apart at the seams. How many of you know

what I mean by that? All right. Let's go on just one step further. Where people come from all parts of the world to attend the National UFO Convention. That's what we call this place in our new film documentary

called Phenomena 7.7. When we've shown this picture in different parts of the world, they ask us the foremost question, what kind of people go to UFO conventions? And our answer, people like yourselves,

people like you, people like me. But why do you go out on the desert there? Because we want to find out some truth. Not that we know it all. We're still continuously,

every day that we live, we're reaching out, learning something great, learning something new. Because there's always something good to be learned. And what do we do with this knowledge?

We pass it on to others so it may help them to properly understand the overall UFO program. Now anyone who tries to base the UFO mystery on religion alone is missing the mark.

Anyone that tries to base it on scientific findings alone is missing the mark. We've got to learn how to melt these two together and even some other aspects of the mystery. And thereby come out

with a balanced, sound point where we can meet people on their own level and intelligently explain what we're trying to say. In Washington, D.C. just recently, there was a closed congressional hearing on the UFO problem.

We understand that five or six outstanding scientists spoke before this congressional committee that was called together by the Honorable Edward Rausch, chairman of the symposium. This took place about five minutes past ten in the morning

on July 29th, this year, 1968. And the opening words of Congressman Rausch were these. Gentlemen, today, the House Committee on Science and Astronautics conducts a very special session, a symposium on the subject

of unidentified flying objects. We have invited six outstanding scientists to address us today so that our judgments and our actions might be based on reliable and expert information. On the face,

we say this is great, this is good. What do I say? I say hogwash, and I'll tell you why. Not one of these six outstanding scientists have ever seen

an unidentified flying object. You say, but who would you recommend? I would recommend a qualified, recognized, reliable scientist by the name of Dr. Daniel Fry,

who's not only seen a UFO, but was on board a cotton-picking craft. This is what type of individual I would call before a congressional committee, I would call individuals who have had actual,

physical contact and experience to be able to tell the leaders of our nation what this is all about. How many of you agree? Say aye. Aye.

Now, believe me, this is a good start. At least they have admitted that there is a problem to be discussed before the Congress, the problem of unidentified flying objects.

The first scientist that was called was Dr. J. Allen Hynek, professor of astronomy, director of Dearborn University, Northwestern University, and scientific consultant to the Air Force on UFOs.

Now, we know about Mr. Hynek. He made a mistake. We all make mistakes. None of us are totally infallible. Dr. Hynek questioned 60 witnesses in the state of Michigan, saying,

and this happened some years ago, the 60 witnesses said, sir, we saw an object descend from the sky shaped like a football and it was flashing multicolored lights

on either end. And Mr. Hynek calls the Pentagon, confers with them, meets the press, and tells the press to tell the world these people didn't see

a flying saucer, they saw swamp gas. That was our first witness, Dr. J. Allen Hynek. The next witness was a fine, well-known scientist, Dr. J. Allen Hynek,

who was a professor of astronomy at the University of Michigan at the University of Michigan. He was a fine, outstanding,

renowned gentleman who we have heard from before, a gentleman who has made no bones about UFOs. And this gentleman

was Dr. James E. McDonald, senior physicist from the University of Arizona, a long-time distinguished career as a scientist.

And he goes on record and tells these people that he has spoken to and questioned individuals

about UFOs. Now, this is a very important thing. He has written a lot of

articles about various UFO sightings and he has found that most of their testimony to be accurate.

They even discussed the great New York blackout. The blackout during which time UFOs

were seen in the sky and UFOs in the form of gigantic fireballs were sighted dancing

in the sky. And then a matter of seconds later the great east coast blackout to which there

has been no reply, no answer as to the where's or the why for's. The next scientist

called was Dr. Carl Sagan, associate professor of astronomy, department of astronomy and center of radio

physics of space research Cornell University. Dr. Sagan had this to say, he said

on any other planet is an open question absolute. He said we're receiving

impulses which are sending out radiations with a frequency of about one per

second. It was confirmed by he said this is one of the best

possible evidences of the department of sociology University of Illinois. He said

I cannot go along with the United States government that we may have mass hysteria.

He said let's present all of the information to the public and let them make

up their minds. That is good sense. The next one was Dr. Robert Baker,

who was the first to talk about UFOs

and the results of his 16-year study into the subject.

He said the Air Force has much information yet the Air Force is not publishing

such information. He went on to say that the United States has

a very important mission to protect the human

have approached a clear echelon of the American government and other world governments, and our governments have turned down their help, how many of you, first of all, believe that there are people from other worlds walking among us on this planet? Let me see your hands, please. All right. And if they are, if they are, why must they necessarily look like monsters? Why do they have to be great, big, gigantic creatures? Why can they not look like people?

The only one that I ever met up to a certain point, assassination, was one. Since that time, I have been introduced, and to my great surprise, none of the other people.
