[00:00] Opening remarks and Edgar Cayce introduction

for us to have been able to meet this wonderful man this edgar casey i'm sure all of you have at

one time or another in your lives been somewhere and suddenly there's a boing and a bell rings and you say oh that's for me quite by chance in october of 1943 we came across a little magazine

article coronet magazine if memory serves me correctly and thumbing through it and happened to see an item called the miracle man of virginia beach i don't know why we started to read it but we did and this is when the bell went clang we have to meet this man unfortunately it was

war time and it wasn't easy to get from coast to coast but we managed over a period of about five days by greyhound and various other types of broken down old buses to get from the west coast to virginia beach virginia now nominally one would have had to

have had a reservation an appointment as it were months ahead because edgar casey

for some 40 odd years had been doing this work uh i guess many people would think that it'd be

pretty soft to be able to work and sleep while you're doing it and yet that's not the case and that's not the case and that's not the case and that's not the case and that's not the case and that's not the case and that's not the case and that's not the case and that's not the case and that's not the case and that's not the case and that's what edgar casey did however we were i guess you could call it in dire enough straits that he said fine i'll work you in in meeting the man he didn't look like our preconceived notion of anyone who could look into the past or the future in fact you wondered whether or not he could see too well in the present he was a very mild-mannered gentleman a gentleman of the south had a fairly strong southern accent and well the nearest description i can give of him is a sunday school teacher does that paint a picture to you know a very quiet easy-going man didn't look saintly necessarily

but this is the sort of gentleman that he was now perhaps you'd like to know how it's done this reading that he gave i don't know many of the books there is the river tells much of his earlier part of his life and but no book i have found will describe it as thoroughly and as closely as we were able to

see it in person nothing will take the place of a personal visit to him as perhaps many of you know who have read anything about edward casey you didn't need to go to him we didn't learn that from the magazine but we felt there was an emergency we had to go and truly there was because he was gone in less than a year from that time so to give you an idea of what it was like he ushered us into a little bit of an office well just about this much of this room just room for a little desk a tiny cot and a chair beside it and two other chairs on which Kathleen and i sat And he just would lie down on the cot, pull a little coverlet over him, loosen his shoelaces, and loosen his tie.

I don't know why he loosened both ends, but that's what he did. Then he would take two or three deep breaths, exhale them, his diaphragm or solar plexus, if you will, would flutter a bit.

And he was gone. He was off, asleep. Well, of course, you and I know it wasn't really just asleep, but at least it was all the appearances of being asleep.

Then his secretary, Gladys Davis, who would sit at the chair by the head of his bed, would give him the instructions for the person for whom he was going to read that day.

As I said earlier, you didn't need to be there. You could be in Kalamazoo or Timbuktu, and he could find you by some... extra-sensory means. Over the many years that he gave readings, a number of questions were asked as to how he could do this. Well, it was said that it was a talent that he had developed over many lifetimes, and that he was able to send some part of him.

Now, whether you call it the subconscious mind or the super-conscious mind, it doesn't make any difference what name you give it. Some part of... Some part of him was able to travel in space and time, because actually, if you analyze it closely, there is no such thing as time.

[05:00] Personal recollections of Cayce and Virginia Beach

All right, so it's 8.30 here. In New York, it's 11.30, and yet it's the same instant. There's a difference in space. When you really look at it closely, you'll find that time is merely a tool that man has developed to relate one incident to another.

Now, as for the reading itself, as I say, Mr. Cayce didn't know ahead of time for whom he was going to give the reading.

Only his secretary, or in some cases his wife, handled the transcribing and the handling of the reading. So, she would say, you will give the relations of this entity and the universe and the universal forces, given the conditions which are, as personalities, latent, and exhibited in the present life, also the former appearances in this earth plane, giving the development for the entity the time, place, and the name, and that which in each life built or retired or retarded this entity, giving the abilities of the present, that to which the entity may attain, and answering questions as I ask them. I'm reading this from a rather tired old piece of paper. This is the original. You see, when the secretary, Gladys Davis, finishes with the reading, when she transcribes it in shorthand, and then it is, I should say, she copies it in shorthand and then transcribes it, and one copy is sent to the file and the other copy is sent to the individual,

or given to him in this case. The copy for the organization, it was put on microfilm, and every one of some 15,000 readings that Mr. Casey gave over 40-odd years is now on file there. There were two kinds of readings, actually three, for which Mr. Casey is known. One was called a physical reading, in which he would, in a sense, as a doctor would, diagnose and prescribe. And this got him into a lot of trouble, as you can well imagine, over the time. However, for every doctor and scientist and physicist and any other type of man who came to ridicule and to find out how big a charlatan he was, many became his greatest boosters, and none ever found him in any way a charlatan or a fraud. And this is one thing the man was not. He was sincere. He didn't ask for this. He didn't make a fortune out of it. He died a poor man. He could have. He could have made a fortune. But he felt that it would not be right to predict who was going to win in the fifth at Pimlico.

This was tried on him. And he found that after such readings, this was in the early part of his career, he found that after such readings, he would awaken from his sleep with a headache and feeling very bad. And it wasn't until he caught on a little later that he found out what the man who was giving him the readings at that time was doing. This is before he got into the type of work that I'm going to describe tonight. The other, one of the other types of readings was called the life reading. And this had to do with reincarnation. Who you were before you came into this veil of tears, and what talents you've developed, and so on. And this was basically what both Kathleen and I were interested in. I'd like to have had both physical and life, but there just wasn't the time for it. So after this sort of setting the stage by Gladys Davis, his conductor at that time, there would be a brief pause, and the breathing would continue rather deeply.

Then Mr. Casey would say, yes, we are given the records here of the entity now known as, or called, Larry Chatterton. When you say the records, what records? He was able to remember vaguely in one of the readings how this was done. Now, for those of you who are familiar with the term, you will say, oh, he was reading the Akashic records. All right, what are the Akashic records? Where are they kept? Any particular spot we know of on cloud nine or somewhere? Well, we don't know where they are, but he was able to describe the sensation he had in searching for these records. And he described it, I think you'll find it in the book, There is a River. And it's a very interesting sequence in that book, how he felt he was, in a sense, going down an elevator shaft, a black elevator shaft. And he kept going down farther and farther and farther and farther in utter blackness. Then there seemed to come an equilibrium. Then there would be the sensation of starting to rise again.

And in the rising, still very black, light would gradually start to come. At first, just a dim glimmer of grayness. And through this grayness, he would see all sort of weird forms. I guess we'd call them horrible forms. Monsters and all sorts of things. You might say he had gone down into perdition and was coming back up through it, if you would like to use that term. But at any rate, this rising upward continued. And as it continued, it got lighter and lighter and lighter until, when it was nearly full brilliance, he would begin to hear music. Maybe the music of the spheres, I don't know. But at any rate, the brilliance became more than merely light. It became radiance. And then he found himself looking out into, I guess you could call it something like a great cathedral, bathed in a golden glow. And he would walk down this, and on either side of the aisle were huge racks, very much as you'd see down in the central library downtown.

And he would know if he was looking for this Chatterton character, all right, I'll go and pick out of the C's. And here was a book. And the book was about this individual with this name now. He would open the book and pick from it, as he says later on in here, the items and the lives that are of primary importance to the individual here and now in this lifetime, at this period in the lifetime. That was the explanation he sort of remembered as in a dream as to how and where he found these readings, or these records, I should say. Now to go on. In giving the interpretation of the records as we find them, these we choose with a desire that this information may be a helpful experience, enabling the entity to better fulfill the purpose for which it entered this present sojourn. We would magnify the virtues. We would minimize the faults. I think that was very nice of him. But faults there are, virtues there are. For there is so much good in the worst,

it doesn't behoove any of us to speak unkindly, even of the worst of us. You know, before you get through this, you'll think you've heard a sermon from some of the things he says here. For he is indeed blessed whom the Lord hath given consciousness in this present period of changes in thought in the world. Have you thought about that recently? You glad you're here? Then it is only that each individual would be warned, would be given that which may enable him as an individual, as an entity, to carry on to the glory of God and to the honor of self. You notice he's talking almost like a minister. Well, perhaps had circumstances been different in his life, Mr. Casey may well have been a minister. But unfortunately, in his circumstances, where he was brought up in the backwoods of Kentucky, I believe, he didn't have much of an education. I think he got to the third grade, something like that. And consequently, he didn't have enough education to be a minister.

But he was oriented toward religion. He had read the Bible through, I think, once a year for every year of his life. Then it is only that each... Hmm, I've already given that paragraph. Then who is to be the judge? Only self may answer that within self. For as has been summarized by the lawgiver, say not who will descend from heaven to bring me a message that I may know, or who would come from over the seas, for, lo, it is within thee. Today, now, there is set before thee good and evil, life and death. Choose thou. As to the urges, latent and exhibited, we find these as the combination of the efforts, the urges arising from, from a composite of the earthly or material experiences, and the application in other dimensions or through the periods of transition in the earth. You may notice that some of this phraseology is, well, rather strange, maybe old-fashioned or something. The first time I heard this and then reread it,

I didn't think I understood it very well. In fact, I probably didn't. I didn't think much of the reading. However, that changed over a period of years. I might say, too, that in case you're not real hip on reincarnation, Jessica Madigan will set you straight on that, and she really knows about it. But that comes all the way through these readings, reincarnation. In fact, when Mr. Casey first was told that he had mentioned how a person had lived in some other life in maybe Louisiana or New York City or somewhere else, he was very much disturbed because he was brought up in a strict, old-fashioned, small-town, backcountry religion, and they just didn't believe reincarnation. They said, it isn't in the Bible, therefore it isn't true. And he began to be afraid that this thing that he had, which he didn't understand too well anyway, might well be the work of the devil. And he was about ready to say, no, I'll never give another reading again.

However, as time went on, he became convinced that maybe reincarnation is true. And particularly when his wife, I think it was, took a reading on himself and found out who he had been and how he came about to be able to do this, he finally consented that there was such a thing as reincarnation. Thus we find an entity pleasing in personality, trouble in individuality. And he wasn't humming when he said that. That was the reason I made the 3,000-mile trip back there, because I didn't know what I wanted to do. I didn't think I wanted to do what I was doing then. In fact, I was sure I wasn't. I didn't want to do it. I wanted to do something else. And I'm afraid that's what most of us are finding ourselves doing these days. We find our job a little humdrum, maybe, or I'd rather be doing something more glamorous. Well, that was the state in which I found myself. He says, This is an entity tempered in the lack of patience

and that couldn't have been more true, over-emotional in those things pertaining to likes and dislikes, and yet with abilities to lead, to direct others, not merely by a set form but in principle. But the practice must come first in self. And that was a little lesson that I apparently hadn't learned. The astrological aspects. Now, here's a rather strange thing. He would mention Mercury and Neptune and Venus and all the rest of it, but he says the astrological aspects are not as ordinarily termed, for here we find tendencies, but many of these have been and are being changed in the entity's experience. And then he goes on with a list of the various planetary influences, because according to some of the Cayce readings, we don't necessarily go to heaven where they have pearly gates and the streets paved with gold and we just sit on the right hand of God and be happy with him forever. We go to someplace like maybe Mercury or Neptune

and sit there for a while until we can mull over some of the lessons that we should have learned while we were still in this body. And when we have come to the conclusion, okay, I see what I did wrong, then we can go on somewhere else. So he says in Mercury and in Venus, that is adverse to Jupiter, in Uranus and in Saturn, we find the greater influences from the latent forces or in the expression in the dreams and thoughts of the entity. He's almost saying the same thing as you have seen at the head of some of these astrological columns in the newspapers, the stars incline but do not compel. We find in Mercury the high mental abilities, in Venus the music, the expression in voice. The adverse influence from Jupiter is expressed in not looking far enough ahead at times, forgetting the experiences even in self for the moment. In Uranus we find the extremes, the ability becomes, the entity becomes very, very much given to being an extremist.

And I think Kathleen is right. Kathleen will probably say amen to that. Amen. We find in Saturn the sudden changes in the experiences, in the materialization of activities. What did I say about Mr. Cayce probably should have been a minister? Listen to what he said. According to the abilities, the entity should have been a minister, a singer or an exhortationist in any of those things wherein there is the use of the voice, the use of the personality to sway, change, direct, help, aid the fellow man. Probably one of the things I was at one time as a, what do you call him, a mule slinger? No. I guess it was a bull slinger I was thinking of. These are the channels through which the entity may find the greater outlet for its abilities in the present. But learn first to apply self. Ask not of others, that ye do not do yourself. Now, let's find out who I was before. As to the appearances in the earth and the influences these have

in the present experience of the entity. Before this, the entity was among those in what is now called Indiana who journeyed towards the west in the search for gold. Colorado, then California. I might say that I went down there to the library and see if I could find anything in the genealogical section. And I did find that the name that he says I had at that time belonged to a family that came out from England and settled on in New England. And one of the brothers, being a black sheep, came out to the Indiana territory and there they lost track of him. So that was as far as I could get with the genealogy section. So he says, These areas, Colorado and then California, have a particular call to the entity. Things pertaining to either of these states and in these directions call to the entity, yet the abilities may find a greater outlet at this period of activity in the eastern seaboard area or in New England or in such as New Orleans.

In those expressions, the entity became as a leader for the various groups as they united in their efforts for the common harvest. Now, after much soul-searching and checking with various other readings, I have interpreted this, although he didn't say it in so many words, to say that I was among those who came out on the wagon trains in that wild rush for the gold rush in California. The name then was Carlton Carruth. And you will find something of the happening still recorded in some of those places in California. Maybe you will, but I haven't. I spent one whole vacation going through all the old brute hills up in the gold country and finally had to give it up. There were too many of them. And when you did find one out in Joe Smith's cow pasture with a little fence around it, the weeds were as high as the fence and whatever little headstones were still standing, you couldn't read the names on them. So it may be recorded,

but as yet I haven't found it. Before that, the entity was in the English land during the period of the Second Crusade. There the entity was a zealous individual for causes and purposes. Thus we find that over-anxiety, which at times comes for causes or purposes, or the extremes to which the entity will find itself going in its analyzing of itself. Those were periods of anxiety for many. Yet again, the entity proved itself worthy of leadership. Thus, as indicated, the entity's abilities should be used as a leader in song, a leader in the direction of a minister or teacher, as a director of groups, organizations, or those activities pertaining to communications, radio, or where messages are to be delivered to individual groups, or where there is the need for spreading propaganda. It so happens that even in 1944, I guess it was by the time I got back there, I had been in radio then for 14 years. Beg pardon? Don't take your talk?

All right. Shall I just read this and give it to you? All right. She claims I'm usurping on what she's going to say. We didn't plan this, so if I step on her toes, I'm sorry. At any rate, my main problem was, oh, I'm sick of this business. I had gotten to the point where I was sitting at a desk. I didn't like that. After all, it's something I like to be out in the open spaces a bit too. And so this didn't sit well with me at all because he was just telling me to go back and do the same thing I'd been doing. Anyway, he says it will be well for the entity from that experience to seek activities, governmental activities in South Africa for the reclamations. And that, to this day, doesn't mean much to me because there weren't much reclamations going on at that time in South Africa. Now, maybe there'll be a day come when there'll be need for that. The name then was Carl Esten. Before that, the entity was in the Persian and Arabian land

when there were those activities in the city, in the hills and the plains. Now, if any of you have studied Zoroastrianism, that is the phrase that is used to describe the city in which Zoroaster held forth. The entity was among the merchants who passed that way as one in active service between the city of gold in what is now French China or Indochina and the Egyptian land. Changes came to the entity with the activities as a result of stopping in the city in the hills and the plains, for the entity then carried those messages to the peoples of Egypt and the Far East as to the tenets and truths that became a part of the new regime builded from the teachings in the city, in the hills and the plains. In other words, I became converted to Zoroastrianism and instead of being a camel skinner, that was the word I was trying to think of, a mule skinner before, instead of going on the caravans just as a camel skinner as it were,

I also spread the word and tried to make other converts. The name then was Pasha Dwen. From that sojourn we find the abilities to meet the needs of groups in various activities, groups in various thoughts and in various schools of activities. These again would be a contributing factor to the entity in governmental representation if chosen in those directions. One more. Before that, see we're going back in time and it also should be noted that this doesn't mean these were the only four lifetimes but they were the only four that were directly influencing the present one. Before that, the entity was in the Egyptian land when there were those turmoils and when those activities came about in which emissaries were sent to various lands by the king with the sanction of the priest. The entity then was among those prepared first in the temple of sacrifice, again in the temple beautiful, for an emissary to the land of Saad,

and the Gobi land. That would be the land of Saad is China, isn't it? Yes. Thus things pertaining to the Orient find lodgment in the mind and in the purpose of the entity. He didn't give a name that time. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain, and how this can be done, first find self. Know thine own ideal. Know that you have just begun to live. While there is a past, put it behind thee. Begin where you are today. There, and in that direction, use thy life, thy purpose, thy will, if it will be dedicated to God and to thy fellow man. Now, lady, do you have some words of wisdom? So that is my life reading. Now, Kathleen was going to comment on it and see... Well, this is it now. I'm sorry, but right now it's your turn. She can tell you how... whether Mr. Casey knew anything about my past, present, and future. It should be apparent from Larry's reading that there's a pattern formed.

From the very beginning, or the earliest reading, there were certain basic characteristics that stand out. He was a leader. He was a man, apparently, who was unencumbered in any sense of the... in any shape or form. He was a man who traveled great distances, a man to whom people looked to for guidance, for leadership and direction. And it's an interesting thing that in the readings of Mr. Casey, over and over and over again, he stresses that life has a... Just as nature abhors a vacuum, so life seeks to establish an equilibrium. If you have had a lifetime of one extreme, then there will be, of necessity, another life coming which will counterbalance what you have gone out on, you know, to an extreme in another. So that in the ultimate, or the ultimate end is that we become balanced individuals. And apparently this is one of the purposes for which we are here. And of course, Larry's lives do seem to be rather unbalanced.

Great, great freedom, very few limitations. Another observation that's rather interesting, it isn't brought out in these readings, but it's apparent when you've studied them, that the body that you have, is probably very similar to what you have had life after life after life. I know when I look at myself, I think how lovely it would be to think that every time it will be an improvement, or surely this time this is just a mistake, but there was a time when I was ravishing. You know, we all have these fantasies. And I just know this isn't the true me that's looking at you. You know, I'm much better than really this would indicate. But the fact remains that, if we're honest, in a general configuration, in a general sense, we have never changed very much. Probably, if you could see yourself five lifetimes back, you wouldn't be identical to what you are today, but you would recognize yourself as a type. If you are tiny and delicate,

you probably have been that. Now, if you look at my husband, he is a very big man. He's six foot, oh, when I first knew him, he was nearly six foot four. And that's a lot of man. You've beaten me down since then. Oh, don't you believe that? He will be six foot two tomorrow.

But the fact remains that he has an inordinately strong physique. Now, apparently, this body was necessary for the work that he had done lifetime after lifetime. He was born into this life. Now, I think this was the time when he had to strike the balance that nature apparently had in store. When I first knew him, we were not married, incidentally, at the time the readings were taken. But when I first knew him, he was one of the most torn, terribly driven individuals that I have ever known in my life. When Mr. Casey said he was given to extremes, you have no idea. This man was, he was almost beside himself. Here he had this enormously developed body that could do almost anything physically. And what was his work? Sitting at a table with a little piece of paper, that's the most work he ever did, picking up this little piece of paper and reading, you know, about Salipatika or something. Salipatika or something on the radio.

And he was quite convinced. For the smile of God. Oh, yes. But he was absolutely convinced that something was wrong. He did not belong where he was. Nature had made some terrible mistake. He was capable of taking on, going on a white horse and charging off into the universe and changing all the inequalities and injustices in the universe. Just leave it to him. And somehow he would find the magic formula that would put him on the right horse at the right place. And so, this was what was driving the man. He had gone off already in about ten different directions when he finally found the reading. Now, of course, you know exactly, as well as I, I mean, from having heard this, you know exactly what he wanted. He wanted Mr. Casey to tell him, ah, yes, here you are, a great leader, purposes and so on. You go and see Mr. Joe Schmoo in Kokomo, Indiana and tell him that, you know, Edgar Casey sent you and ipso facto, there is the horse

and off you go. In other words, he wanted absolute direction. Now, of course, what neither he nor I realized at the time, life doesn't do that. And neither did Mr. Casey. In very, very few cases did he ever specifically tell you what to do because in doing so then, he had taken something upon himself. This is something that you must find for yourself. So, my darling started off and he had the reading and you have never seen a more woebegone individual. He felt utterly cheated and betrayed. So, this was not what he went for. He didn't get what he wanted. He was still back in radio and he didn't want to be here. Well, we didn't realize how very wise Mr. Casey and life could be because, you see, if you look at the work that my husband has done and he has never been able to escape from it, his uncontrolled, his absolute liberty and freedom of movement, which had been lifetime after lifetime after lifetime his, was now limited to a second hand on a clock.

At the studio, on the dot, every, every moment of his life is bound by a clock. This has balanced the freedom. So, he's a month late in getting into a town. What difference does it make? Ultimately, the caravan would get him. His body, which was certainly designed for strong demands made upon a physical body, great demands made upon a physical body, as I say, was, the most work he ever did was to lift a little piece of paper. And here, too, was inner control. I think that in everything that Larry has done in this life, it has been largely to counterbalance what he, the pattern that was built up over the past four lives. Now, is he a happy man? Well, I would say the, probably the greatest gift that life can give is to have peace at heart. If you can make peace with yourself and if you can ever realize the glorious truth that Mr. Casey's taught over and over and over again, and I truly believe that this was one of his great gifts to the world,

and that is the teaching which is as old as time, but it's simply this, that where you are is sacred ground. We all dream great dreams of what we could do if only we had an opportunity. No. The truth is you are where you are supposed to be. You wouldn't be here if there wasn't something that you could do uniquely that no one else in the whole world can do quite as well. By the same token, you are where you are going to be disciplined by self, not by God who is punishing you at all, but by the inner discipline, the inner knowing of what is necessary for your own soul growth. And when you can come to terms with yourself and to realize that where you stand is sacred ground, that whether you are peeling potatoes at a sink and washing dishes, which, goodness knows, is not very glamorous, whether you are doing as I do, teach school, and sometimes you look at the students and you wonder when people ask me, what do you do, and I really almost am forced

to say very little, you realize that your life has great purpose in the cosmic scheme. In the cosmic scheme of things. And that when the time is right for you to move without your doing it, if you have been true up to now, the doors will open, because there is this divine plan that directs our lives. And I think when you have come to that realization that where you are is where you are meant to be, and that there is some divine power within you that is directing you, then so much of the agony of what shall I do, what decisions shall I make, where shall I go, you don't go anywhere, because where you are is sacred ground. Thank you.

Ladies and gentlemen, Ms. Jessica Madigan is here now. She has been composing herself. She has been under great strain today, and because of this situation here, first of all, I want to introduce Florence Ferrico, who is in partnership with Jessica Madigan in putting on a Sunday afternoon platform performance, and who has a New Age Quester program. Usually I believe it's on Saturday also, and I want to have Florence Ferrico stand up and take a bow, and also at this time, will you stand up, Florence? She is dedicated to bringing us bringing these gracious people to her form and to Jessica, and I want to thank Kathleen and Larry and Florence Ferrico tonight, because these three individuals stand back of Jessica Madigan and graciously, out of the goodness of their heart, came to fill in this gap, rather than have perhaps a tape that we may have had here to play for you. Perhaps you may not have wanted to stay, but at least they believe

in what Jessica is doing, that they wanted to come and make this a part of the whole program for the evening, because they have had this experience and they knew Edgar Cayce personally. And now, if Jessica Madigan will come up here, I will turn the meeting over to her and let her continue and talk about world prophecy, dream interpretation, karma. Edgar Cayce, if there's a thing that she wants to bring out. And so at this time, I'll turn the meeting over to Jessica Madigan, who at one time was the secretary for quite a few months to, I believe it was Hugh Lane Cayce. Is that correct? So at this time, Jessica Madigan. Thank you.

Since we've had this break here, I'm going to ask Jessica to speak until 9.30. Then we'll have the regular break and then the question and answer period. And we'll have questions and answers which you can direct to Jessica Madigan, to Kathleen, to Larry Chatterton, so that tonight you have had the opportunity of hearing three speakers, although briefly from Larry and Kathleen, but I think they've given you an understanding, a basis for what you're going to hear now. Thank you. Well, I thought perhaps you'd like to hear one story of Edgar Cayce. I heard Kathleen and Larry when I was outside. I think they were so wonderful. But one story especially that I think depicts what Mr. Cayce was really like. And this is a story that Harmon Breaux told me. Harmon Breaux was a Ph.D. And his mother, Marguerite Harmon Breaux, who has written some 10 or 12 books, went down to Virginia Beach and met Edgar Cayce, and she wrote the Carnet article about him

years and years ago. So when she wrote to her intellectual young son that she believed in this kind of thing, he wrote her back. He said, Mother, I think you've gone off your rocker. So he decided to go down there and to disprove everything that his mother believed, to prove to her that Edgar Cayce was an absolute fake. Harmon said that day after day he sat in on the readings, and many of them were life readings, and some of them were physical readings. And always Cayce seemed just the same. He said one day they got a long-distance call from New York City, and a woman said that her child had spinal meningitis, and that the doctors had given up hope. And would he give a reading on her son? So Cayce gave a reading on her son. And three weeks later, when the child had actually recovered and was on the way to perfect health, she came down to see Edgar Cayce, and Edgar Cayce was out at the moment, and so later she telephoned him,

and Harmon answered the phone. He said that Mr. Cayce was sitting in the library, and Harmon was still not quite persuaded, and he said to himself, Well, I know that Cayce will have the big head now. He'll think how wonderful it is, and he's absolutely healed this child when several doctors couldn't. But he said that he heard Mr. Cayce take up the phone, and Mr. Cayce said, Your son is really recovered. I'm so happy. And they talked for three weeks, for some time. And then Harmon said that when Cayce said goodbye and hung up the phone, he said in a broken voice, Thank you, God. And Cayce said that was the last, I mean, Harmon said that was the last time that he was skeptical at all. Mr. Cayce had a lot of dreams, and most of them are dreams such as you and I would have. I've told this one several times. I'll tell it again. I think it's very pleasant, and again, we see a side of Cayce's character. One's dream that he went out of the body,

and he found himself in a beautiful Grecian temple. And when he was in this temple, he found a chapel of prayer. He went into the chapel of prayer, and while he was there, he saw, for instance, an automobile all wrapped up, a miniature automobile, a frigidaire wrapped up as if they were gifts, and on and on and on. So he turned to the old caretaker, and he said, Will you tell me why all of these presents are wrapped up as gifts? Automobiles, furniture, typewriters even, and so on. And he said that the caretaker looked at him very seriously and said, Well, don't you know? He said, These are the things for which the people on earth have been praying, and they stopped just before the date of delivery. And I think that shows quite a bit about Mr. Cayce. One of the most interesting things about prophecy that Cayce gave, and I've given it here before, and I have a lot more material on it now. For those of you who come to my own lectures so often,

you know this prophecy, and I hate to bore you with it, but Cayce said that there is a possibility, he did not say when, but he said if Mount Vesuvius should erupt, with a great eruption in Italy, or Mount, or Martinique in, let's say, or Mount Pali in Martinique, that there could be the greatest earthquake, apparently, of this age, and it could occur in California. He did not say it would happen. He said if, and he indicated that we in California

would have about 90 days to get out of this area. When Cayce talked about the people in California, not in just one reading, but in many readings, well, he would always say that, these people were the Atlanteans. There were the Atlanteans who lived in the latter days, I mean, we're all Atlanteans, Russia and so on. But he said that we were drawn back, especially to California, because we were the people who were so occult that we did not really listen to the inner voice when Atlantis was going down. He said Atlantis had three earthquakes, that it was far beyond our civilization. And because of this, he said once again, we're being tested. Now, let's see, since I spoke here the last time, I think in December of 1965, December 10th in Sacramento, 200 scientists met. And for the first time, they made public the fact that the San Andreas Fault is weakening, and that there could be a major catastrophe, a major earthquake. It could happen tomorrow,

they said, or it could happen in 10 years. But Cayce said it would not happen until after Mount Vesuvius or Mount Pali erupted. He talked about his dreams many times to people, and they would tell me that Mr. Cayce's father, incidentally, was a man who was extremely dramatic, and Edgar Cayce himself was a very shy man. So usually, Edgar Cayce's father was sitting in the living room with a great many people telling his dreams of something. But once in a while, Mr. Cayce, Edgar Cayce, would slip in a dream or two. And one of the dreams which related to the future, which seems to have real meaning, occurred the night after he was arrested in Chicago, Illinois, for giving what they said was fortune telling. The judge threw the case out of court, and that night coming home, Hugh Lynn Cayce told me that all the way home, Mr. Cayce was crying. And the tears poured down his cheeks, and he said, Hugh Lynn, this proves that I'm wrong about everything.

This proves that the readings have no meaning. It just happens that once in a while, or very often actually, that someone is healed and so forth. This proves that there is no meaning for anything I've done at all. And Hugh Lynn said he could say nothing to comfort his father. And finally he turned and he saw that Edgar Cayce was very sound asleep. And finally when Mr. Cayce was awake, he turned to Hugh Lynn and he said, Hugh Lynn, I think I have an answer. He said, I have a strange dream. In the dream, he found himself a little boy. It was another age. He was in America, but he said he, it was about the year 2104. He said that the coastline was Nebraska. And it was in Nebraska that he had been born. He had a very peculiar name, a name that he wasn't familiar with at all. And so in this particular dream, he remembered at the age of six, that he had been Edgar Cayce and had lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia. That he had given readings

and that there was a huge vault there where these readings were kept. So he said that his mother and father got him to see some scientists. And he told the whole story of the dream as the little boy would. He looked at these huge men and they had glasses on and so forth. And he told them that he was Edgar Cayce. He said that in the dream, they took a cigar-shaped plane. Now remember this is 2104, very much I think like the cigar saucers. And they went very rapidly across the country. And he could see that there was a great deal of water in different states and so on. And finally, they went over New York City and here the whole city had been raised as if by fire. Now, Justin Stern brings out in his book that perhaps there'll be an inundation of New York very soon. But if Cayce's dream is correct and the reading said that it is correct, that in the year 2104, New York City, Manhattan Island, they are still standing,

but that they have been raised as if by fire. And in the dream, he goes on down into the south. And here in the south, they land at Virginia Beach. And the end of the dream is where they find the readings. And when he had a reading on this, he went to sleep every afternoon and gave a reading. The reading said that this was to let him know that his work had meaning and purpose not only for his generation and his time, but far into the future. You probably want to ask a lot of questions later on during the question period about what Cayce said about many things. He covered everything. He covered everything from gray hair and baldness to the special diets to past lives to life after death and so on. One time, the study group had an open reading with Edgar Cayce, and they asked him, what would happen if we died at this moment, if we were struck by an atom bomb? And he said, well, nothing would happen, that he would go on speaking

and they would go on listening. Because he said that the other plane is almost a duplicate at the moment of death of this plane, so there's not too much of a change. And yet he told many, many times a simple statement that I didn't understand very well. He said, as they treat each other, as the tree falls, so shall it lie. He said, what we expect of death is often what we find. In a sense, he said that each time that we're in a deep sleep, every time that we're in a deep sleep, that we leave the body and that we go to other planes of consciousness, so that when death does come, that it is just as if it is the country that we know best. It is what the soul knows. It's really the home of the soul. Several years ago, I had Bessie Lasky in my class, Bessie Mona Lasky, and she's the artist. And Jesse Lasky, who founded Famous Players, is her husband, or was her husband. And he came to class even once or twice, but he had great skepticism.

He simply didn't believe anything, nothing about the fourth dimension. He just, one day I remember, he said, well, when you're dead, you're dead. And with that sort of inflection. But Bessie Mona Lasky told me later exactly what happened the week that Jesse Lasky died. He'd written this book, I Blow My Own Horn. And he had a lot of speaking engagements. He found himself out at the, oh, just every day with one speaking engagement after another. And one day he came down to the kitchen and he said to Mrs. Lasky, Bessie, I keep dreaming the strangest dreams. He said, you know we've been all over the world, and yet I keep dreaming the strangest dreams. I keep dreaming of a country that I've never seen. He said, in the dream, it's a very simple dream, I simply walk along a stream. There's green grass. And he said, I look at the stream, and there are blue fish in it, and I'm just happy and contented. And from some place I hear a sweet type of music.

Nothing else happens. But he said, I've never seen any place that's exactly like this, with the color so vivid. The next morning he told me the same dream. The third morning, the same dream. And the final morning, the day that he died, he came into the kitchen and he said, Bessie, I've had the strangest dream of all. He said, it's a dream that I think will stay with me forever. He said, I found myself in the same country. I walked by the same stream, across the Meadow. But this time that I looked up, and on the top of a hill, I saw a white farmhouse. And as I walked up toward the farmhouse, he said, I knew that I must knock on the door. I must talk to the people. He said, when I got on the porch, I stood there a moment, and I knocked upon the door, and he said, Bessie, do you know what happened? He said, the door opened, and my mother and sister came. They embraced me. He said, they were just as real as you and I,

and they've been dead for 32 years. Each of them. They died the same year. So that day, Mrs. Lassie said he was to speak at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. And he went out to the Beverly Hilton Hotel. It was his birthday. He walked in, and there was a great crowd of people. And as he walked in, they started to applaud. And he looked at them just a moment, with a rather blank look on his face, and he sank to his knees. And when she told me, she said, I know, Jessica, that he's gone back to that white farmhouse. And that was just a preview of death. Since it's a Holy Saturday, someone asked me to name the past incarnations, the past incarnations of Jesus. And you think of any questions that you'd like to ask about anything, and Kathleen, Larry, and I will answer them if we can. Casey said that the Easter story, as we know it, as we've been taught in the Orthodox churches, is actually absolutely true. He says that we do not understand at all,

for the most part, exactly the position of the disciples, because many of them carried weapons. Remember that on the night of that they took Jesus, that Peter pulled out a knife and sliced the ear of one of the Roman guards. But he said that, for the most part, that everything that we have been taught about Jesus is true. He is the avatar of this planet. He said that many, many times. He had a little different viewpoint than most ministers, or most Orthodox teachings. He said that Jesus chose to come in because at once, as Aemilius in Atlantis, he had been too lenient, too loving, and we all had gone a little astray. He said that we are the people, if you believe in this kind of thing, in reincarnation, in all the things that we study, that we are the people who may have been with him from the very beginning, from the time of Aemilius, and for many incarnations we may have come in with him. And these are the incarnations that he gives.

He gives Aemilius in Atlantis. He gives Melchizedek, who did not take a body, as I understand it, and Enoch. He gives Joseph of Egypt. Joseph of Egypt. Remember? He said that Joseph almost attained perfection, almost attained the Christ as Joseph, but there was great pride and great jealousy. And remember, he was sold into Egypt. He was sold by his brothers. He said that he was Zen. And Zen was the father of Zoroaster. And many of the teachings which Jesus gave actually came from that time. He said that he was also one of the three Isaiah's. Not the one that suffered so terribly before his death was sought into, but the first Isaiah. And so that when you read some of these writings in Isaiah and the Dead Sea Scrolls and so on, you're actually reading the writings of Jesus. He said that as a Persian scribe called Jeshua, he wrote the book of Job. And the book of Job is the story of mankind's sufferings in the earth. He said that sometimes

everyone has to be a Job. So that their life, one lifetime in the earth will be quite difficult. And they turn to the creative force within. They turn to philosophy. They turn to learning of the past. He said that he was also Joshua and that finally that he was Jesus. And as Jesus, he did not reincarnate. He was crucified. He says that the resurrection is true and that he is the avatar of this particular planet. Now perhaps, I think that we wish to have the question and answer period very soon. I don't know exactly what you are interested in. I see that there are quite a few questions here that Lee wants answered. And I think I could answer them perhaps better in the question period. And we've answered about what happens at the moment of death. So many people say, what is an old soul? Well, Edgar Cayce says, an old soul is simply one who's been many, many times in the body. We may have been in many dimensions of consciousness.

He says that every single planet in our galaxy and all the other galaxies are inhabited in the sense of finer beings than we are. At least they have finer skin. They are finer in every way apparently. He said that also that when we go out of the body, that we may find ourselves, for instance, if we are very emotional, very loving people, or if you've had a very lonely life, you may find yourself in a very lonely environment. You may find yourself in the environs of Venus because you would be attracted to Venus because you would have complete and beautiful love. Or if you find yourself out of the body and you're quite an intellectual, you may have spent several lifetimes in the environs of Mercury. Many people who come into the Earth to do very important work, a president of a country, a ruler of a country and so on, he said they took flight from Jupiter. All these planets he gave many, many times. But that we ourselves in our dreams,

that we go from one to another. Sometimes he said that we are able to actually remember. We can remember just a little bit of the dream. And then he gave something that not too many people touch upon when they're giving lectures on Edgar Cayce, but I think it's interesting. It comes from the time of Plato. And the people who know me, they know very well that I mention this all the time. He mentioned that in a sense that we are never alone. Because he said that we are not one entity, but two, there's a portion of this entity and there's another balancing portion of what Edgar Cayce called twin souls, what Plato calls twin souls. I was reading just the other day a book on Andrew Jackson Davis. I read it before. Andrew Jackson Davis, you know, was a great forerunner of Edgar Cayce. And he discovered so many things that many of us are beginning to discover within our own worlds, inner worlds. But Andrew Jackson Davis wrote about the death of his wife.

He said that he'd always been so close to his wife. And that is almost, he said, it was a perfect marriage apparently, but not quite. And his wife was a very dependent person and she would always say, Andrew, don't ever leave me. Don't even leave me in death. And she did die before he did. And this was about the time that was the last thing she said apparently. There was this clinging to Andrew Jackson Davis. Because he was so clairvoyant and had many of the gifts of Cayce, after her death he was able to follow her into other dimensions of consciousness. This went on for two or three years. It was quite a long time. Then one night when he followed her and was meant to be with her, he suddenly saw that she was radiant and she was with someone else. And he saw that they had the same aura, that they were the same individual, and he knew that she had found her twin soul. And she came to him and she said, Andrew, it's not that I love you less,

but that I have found my other self. Now Cayce brought this in, not in one reading, but in many, many readings, this possibility. He touched upon things that he hardly knew, I mean that he scarcely would have known. He gave such things as, why is the child born blind, and because he said that this particular entity had blinded others, had blinded others in a past life, in a Persian life. He answered almost every question that we could ask about why we are here. He said again and again that we choose our lives in the earth. And I've said this many times. He brought out in so many readings that if you're born on the cusp, on the 11th or the 9th or the 18th, that you tend to come into the body with a definite mission, but that we all come into the body with a definite mission. But that toward the end of the life, this is the time of the life that is highlighted. This is the time when the mission is really fulfilled. He said that most of us,

if Kathleen gave her own reading, I'm sure, which is beautiful, at least I hope she did, and so is Larry's. But for many, many people, for instance, if you had a reading, and if you're here tonight, you certainly would. He placed them, say, in Atlantis. We are nearly all Atlanteans. He placed them in Egypt. Very often in the Temple of the Beautiful. If you're interested in healing, it would have been the Temple of Sacrifice. He would have very likely given you a lifetime at the time of Jesus, or he would have said you stayed out of the body to help that particular period. You may have found yourself in France at the time of Louis XIV, or in England at the time of Charles II. But he said that we also have a very real life outside the body. So I see that leads up here, and we can come back for a question period. Think about what you want to ask, and we'll try to answer it. Thank you. Thank you, Jessica. We'll have a short ten-minute break.

Look over the new books there. On the front table, the books by Edgar Cayce, brought out by people of the foundation that... The question is, I have always had a great deal of difficulty in maintaining a conscious state during lectures on this type of subject. Is this a personal fault, or does it have some other significance? At the risk of being facetious, it might be the fault of the speaker. But my opinion would be that probably when this person attends this kind of meeting, the conscious mind is set aside a little, and perhaps the subconscious takes over. I would be most reluctant to advise, but there's just a possibility that this person might benefit and do a great deal with meditation, because apparently the ability of the conscious mind to be set aside is very... The mind is facile. I mean, this is a facility that the mind has, and it might be worth... Of course, one should really and truly use meditation as the means, really,

of going within and getting to know oneself. But it would seem to me that if this is the kind of meeting that triggers this state, then perhaps what the mind is telling this person is, look, let's get busy and do something. Why are you wasting your time listening to other people? Why don't you do it yourself? It's possible. Oh, excuse me. The next question. Is meditation the main help in becoming more conscious of the spiritual truths of life?

I'm not an authority, but just offhand, I would say yes. I think there are different ways, but I think probably meditation is the most direct, probably the way fraught with least possible danger to the individual. There are other methods. It's impossible, of course, to really test. I know that there are some people who under, forgive me using these words, under LSD have had experiences which have opened, channels or opened facets of their being, and great understanding has come. This has happened. However, I think meditation, according to Mr. Casey, and most of the authorities in this field, urge that we spend a certain time each day in meditation, going within. After all, Jesus said, the kingdom of heaven is within. And the only way we can go within ourselves is through meditation. And so I would say this was most strongly advised. Was not reincarnation taught by major religions about 479 A.D.? If so, why and under what conditions

and reasons did they start renouncing it? Yes, without any question, reincarnation was a part of all of the ancient religions. We don't know, of course, how our world was populated. Apparently, as far back as we can go, there have been great men who have had this universal knowledge. And every religion that you study has had its roots in this idea of one having lived many lives. Certainly, in early Christianity, this was part and parcel of the dogma of the Church. However, I don't think it takes too much imagination to see why it was set aside. After all, Christianity was... It grew out of a slave state. The people were in abject poverty. They were in... And the majority of the people who were attracted to the Christian religion were the slave caste from ancient Rome. And so the glory of heaven as... I mean, the earth itself had so little appeal, I think. And the one bright spot that seemed to be held out for these people

was the idea of a world or a state of existence which was bliss and which would be a recompense, in a sense, for what they had suffered on earth. Also, if you'll forgive me being, again, injecting my own opinion, what power does a Church have over you if you know that you are coming back time and time and time again? However, if you believe the teaching which says the heaven and hell are at the same time, at the Church's discretion, then, of course, it behooves you to follow the dictates of the Church. You are free from that if you believe that this life is the result of what you have been in past lives and what you are doing now will create what you will be in a future life. The Church simply could not have built on that kind of a foundation and endured as it has. It was generally taught, I think, during the time of Jesus. In fact, people have raised the question, why is there really no direct mention of the word reincarnation

in the New Testament? And then they'll cite the one or two cases where Jesus is asked, was this child born blind? Was it the fault of his parents or did he do something? We searched diligently to try to find some little clue that would suggest that reincarnation was part of the belief of the people at the time of Jesus. There's always the possibility, of course, that it was so generally held as a truth that there was no point in talking about it. Everyone believed it, so why bother? But certainly at the Council of Nicaea, oh, I think, I forget the date, I'm sorry, it was definitely decided at that time that reincarnation would not be part of the teachings of the Church. And I remember to my horror, I was a very nasty little girl, I think. I must have been about all of 14, which is quite a revolting age for a nasty little girl. And I was, you know, at that horrible stage where I just knew everything. Ask me if you want to know.

And even my parents had difficulty in living with me. But I was very imbued with the idea of reincarnation. It was something that I had very, just at that time, been introduced to. And I believed it with all my whole heart, and I was out to, you know, convert everyone. And I was at a soiree, and there was a very charming gentleman. He happened to be a priest. And I looked with great condescension on this poor, benighted man, you know. And we were talking, and he was being very gracious to a nasty little girl. And I said, well, of course, Father, you couldn't possibly believe in the idea of reincarnation, could you? I remember he did a horrible thing. He patted me on the head. And his words were, my dear little girl, I have forgotten more about reincarnation than you will ever know. And I found out later that he was a Jesuit priest. And in later years, I have come to find out that many priests are perfectly familiar with this idea.

His last phrase was, it is not expedient that we teach this to the laity. I never forgot the words. So apparently it is well known. But it is considered to be a weakness, you see, in that if you believe in reincarnation, you don't need the Church. That's my only answer. There is one more question here that I'd like to ask Kathleen. Well, incidentally, if you are interested in about the hidden story of reincarnation, there are a few books out there based on the Edgar Cayce reading brought out by one of the members of the association. Could Kathleen tell us a little about her life reading? Could you hold that until the end and then if there is any time, yes. Otherwise it might take a little longer. Do we go from one life

to another immediately? I presume this is meant as far as Edgar Cayce taught. And he said many things about this succession of lives. I could answer that by saying yes we do and no we don't. One of the things the reading said was that people who were on the earth during the time of Christ seemed to return, reincarnate approximately every 34 years. The, shall we say, normal, if there is any, span between lives is approximately a century. On the other hand, Mr. Cayce also said that some people may not come back for 10,000 years. And it's also quite true, and this we find after wars and during times of strife and disaster, that people who go out, shall we say, before their time has really come, in some tragic occurrence, an accident or a war, may reincarnate almost immediately, and maybe within the next few days, so that they really haven't gotten used to anything over on the other side. They really have lost their life before they had completed it,

and so they come back to complete it. This is also given as a reason sometimes why a child is born and will live to only three or four years or maybe five years and live seemingly an unusual life and then is taken away. The theory, believe me, I have no proof for it, but the theory is that this person didn't complete his former life because of an accident and therefore came back to live out the remaining years of his life and then was able to go on. So that would be the answer. There is no one set answer as to whether we come back immediately or over a long time. This is the $64 question, but Larry would be the one that should have this. When and how will the war in Vietnam end? May I raise you a few on that $64? Who knows? Any one of you could answer that just as well as I could. So let me go back, fall back on Edgar Cayce again. He wasn't around, or let's say there was no Vietnam War around when he was around, so there was no one to ask him,

a question. However, World War II had begun when he was still here, and naturally someone asked him about war and would there be another world war. So from that we can say, well, this Vietnam War may be over fairly soon. After all, you know it's still not a declared war, so officially it's not a war. But Mr. Cayce did say that following the end of World War II, there would not be another world war until 1998. So I don't know, it's probably up to Mr. Johnson whether or not he's going to prolong the war until that time in Vietnam. I don't think so. Who could tell? If I were going to guess, I'd say maybe six to nine months, but that would be just a guess, same as you could make. Could you please tell us the name of the doctor who uses Cayce's readings in California? It just so happens that in relatively recent days, a doctor has started, I was almost going to say a clinic, I don't think it has reached that point yet, but there is a doctor in California

who has been back to Virginia Beach. I met him at one of the ARE workshops up at Asilomar. They have them every year. And he has, for a number of years, been coming back to Virginia Beach and studying the readings, the physical readings, that have been microfilmed. And his name is Dr. Houghton, H-O-T-T-E-N. I believe he is a D.O. And the last time I knew his address was Arvin, California. I believe he's still situated there. But he has spent a considerable amount of time in Virginia Beach. And he is using many of the remedies that came out in the Cayce readings. And I think that, as far as I know, he is the only doctor in California. There is a Dr. McGarry and his wife, both M.D.s, who are using Cayce material. They are in Phoenix, Arizona. They have a sort of clinic over there. But those are the only ones that I know in this Southland area. There is one more question for Kathleen, and then we'll turn to Jessica Madigan.

The question directed to Kathleen is, would you tell us something about the life reading that you had from Edgar Cayce? Thank you. May I just say one thing relative to the question that Larry answered about coming back, or when he made reference to the fact that people who go out suddenly very often will come back. And they come back with very often the remembrances that they had and the abilities and so on that they had which had been unfulfilled. The reason for that is that I am from the San Fernando Valley and our closest school is Grant High School. Some of you might have noticed certainly this came over on the wires. I don't know if it made the papers. But it seems that a young Korean boy has made application to go to Grant High School. And the principal read his qualifications and he was very satisfied that the child was obviously high school material because he is a Korean, so up on the differential calculus there is only one little hitch to the whole thing.

He is four years old. And the principal said that there is the possibility of course that the child could be abducted and can you imagine what this would do to the psyche of a 16 year old boy in high school sitting with a little four year old idiot you know sitting there doing his differential calculus and my poor high school boy sitting there figuring out let me see if A equals B and C. This might be a possible explanation for these genius children that very often do appear on the scene. Are you sure you want me to? I hope I won't bore you with it. I'll make it very brief. The lifetimes that I had were I'm not going to read them. They too were not at all what I wanted to hear. I had great talent in music and this was the one thing that I was quite certain that God had given me so that I could bring joy and sunshine and light to my fellow man. You know I was going to serve God by doing what I wanted to do anyhow. And apparently life had another pattern for me.

The one thing I was quite certain of was of course I would never teach. There was absolutely nothing lower on the human scale of things than a teacher. And I was not about to add to that roster of shall I say ignoble beings. I loathed them. And of course I would never teach. Music or anything else. Well I had my career for about a year and a half and I lost my voice. I developed what they call the stricture of the throat which was one of the most final ways of ending a career in music that I know of. We tried everything and I even tried mental suicide. I used to go to bed at night and I used to will myself to die. I would die. I would not live. If I couldn't serve God in my way which I knew was the right way, I would die. Well I very nearly did because I came down with a form of leukemia. But unfortunately I had to live and suffer. And here I am. But it was at this stage in my life of total, total blackness talk about blackness of the soul

ugh that I came upon the article and this is where I heard my bell and I went trotting across the country imagine the naivety of a kid going up and knocking on a door and saying hello Mr Casey I'm here for a reading and there were 20,000 other people on a list waiting for readings and I suppose the poor man was so shocked at what he saw that he hauled me in and gave me the reading but that's how we got our readings actually it was ridiculous, utterly unorthodox but mine was not at all flattering either this my first life that he mentioned was in Egypt along with apparently everyone in the whole state of California it must have been a very large temple but it was the temple beautiful and then after that there was a time in England and this I think is rather interesting oh pardon me it was Egypt and then at the time of Jesus where he said I walked with the Master and he put his hand on my head and I was nothing famous at all

I wasn't one of the followers but apparently the Master touched me and he said that Mr Casey said that for a lifetime for all lifetimes I would never be afraid because I would know because the Master had touched me which didn't mean that I was anything special but just that inner knowing that I am not afraid and I don't have to be afraid so this was a rather lovely thing the next incarnation was in as he described it the English land and the nearest that I can pinpoint it would be probably as Jessica said maybe around the Charles II period just at the time when the upper classes were developing a little social consciousness and of course the agony of the poor in England following the Industrial Revolution was more grim than you can imagine there was no work for men the villages had been completely abandoned the landlords had fenced in the common land which had enabled the peasantry to maintain themselves by running their cattle and their sheep

on this common grazing ground and they had forced through a bill which gave the landlords the right to close in this pasture and so this small margin of sustenance between starvation and bare subsistence was taken away from poor people and they flocked into the cities and this of course was the beginning of the slum areas in your large cities in England well as you can imagine the men the strong able bodied men had difficulty in finding work they turned to highway robbery or anything else and for a girl there wasn't much more than the streets and so the history of England during this period is one of the most agonizing phases that you'd ever aspects of history that you'd ever read there were probably more prostitutes walking the streets of London than there would be so called respectable women and of course they had babies and the description of the poor little girl from the country who had been betrayed she's pregnant she has her baby in the ditch and dies

this sort of thing was very common but it was also about this time that the social consciousness of the nation was aroused and upper class women took it upon themselves to be concerned over these young children and so in this reading of Mr. Casey's he said that I was one of the first who ever attempted to establish orphan homes if you like or orphanages for these unwanted children of the streets and then the next lifetime I think he gave as in California and of course I don't agree with this at all however the words are there and I think this was one time when Mr. Casey was wrong because I just know it wasn't so there's only one way to look at it I gave pleasure with my body and I worked in a dance hall at the time of the gold rush now if you'd like to put two and two together without differential calculus and come up with four you're perfectly at liberty to do so I did and it didn't please me I mean at least I should have been Lola Montez

instead of some poor little bar girl in the gold rush but he said I learned to love which was rather nice and apparently the kind of men that I loved were not the kind that you'd want to take home to mother now when you put all these little bits together you have a rather strange picture I am a school teacher you know that person who said I would never teach school if it was the last thing I did well I am teaching school never say never I'm sure there's something that hears you I've learned not to so I shall never say never but it's strange I have taught the most brilliant students I suppose that the state of California has ever graced a classroom with I have also taught the very extreme and if you saw me in a school all my friends are the funny little unloved unwashed you know poor little clunky kids that nobody wants these are my babies and so there's just a possibility that in this looking over the lifetimes that Mr. Casey gave maybe this is

where I am so strongly attracted to the child who needs love I think anyone loves a brilliant gifted child of course this is natural but my heart goes out to the little unwashed unloved when I say little they're 16 years old you know they're high school kids but to me they're little so there's just a possibility of course that if you knew me Larry said that the reading has meaning did I get a great deal out of it well again it was not specific I wanted Mr. Casey to tell me how to get my voice back he didn't he simply reiterated over and over again that serve God by serving your fellow man and where you stand is sacred ground and so on that note again I end thank you

we now have Jessica Madigan answering the questions I had a crippling disease in my youth and would like to know if it would if it would be the same if I came back in a future life no Casey I'm sorry Edgar Casey gave karmic reasons for our disease in fact there's a book out there that we do have it's called sex reincarnation and karma and he hits on every top disease every major disease if someone had this in the youth that it may have been just a carry over you certainly in my opinion wouldn't have it in the next life he said that even disease is a learning process and Casey himself prophesied his own death some 25 years before he died and the thing is at that time he had no one coming he was virtually doing no readings and the readings said that there were many people on the other side who needed all the information that he had and just about that time wrote this tremendous article the miracle man of Virginia Beach and he was suddenly on the map

and they had to get five new postal clerks to handle all of his letters I understand and then he was kept in the body for another 25 years and as Casey said I'd like to remind everyone how often he said that cancer is a karmic disease he said that in his own wife's reading and it's very well known he told her many years before her death that in Egypt some 10,000 years ago in the temple beautiful where Kathleen says we all were perhaps hundreds of others that she had been his companion at that time or his wife she had gone out of her way to make painful situations and she had begun the pattern of resentment now a few years ago we had a young doctor in our class he's now with Johns Hopkins he works with terminal patients even now and he especially is interested in what caused it what emotional experience they were going through and he said the person who has this particular disease is often a very sweet person a very kind and loving person

and the doctors for instance quote blow up or seldom quote blow up they always suppress everything and there may be hidden resentments and this carries out what Smiley Blanton also gave cancer he said would be overcome at least that's my particular understanding and he suggested if we do not want to have a malignancy that we use three almonds a day three to five almonds a day with a brown reddish skin and I know dearly beloved little mother quote she's sort of a foster mother she had an operation years ago she was in 74 and they removed one breast and the doctor told me he said Jessica we can do nothing for Nell because the cancer is too deep and I told Nell this what else could she do and I remember Nell said well Jessica I'll eat ten almonds a day and now Nell's way up almost in her 90s and she is in the very best condition of health and if I may say one more thing I don't know if any of you have heard about it I'm just going to mention it

from all over the country we're getting reports on this Aloe Vera the cactus and down at the cafeteria we had a speaker Dorothy I don't remember her last name at the moment anyway her brother was recommended by Edgar Cayce about 100 to 500 times so many that you just can't count how many times it was in the last stages of malignancy and down to 62 pounds the brother gave her this Aloe Vera and she had this until she was completely healed so if you're interested in this kind of disease but Cayce said that all diseases are coming I do cover it in that particular book Are these twin souls you speak of are true mates and does one meet them on other planets and do we seek all different planets until we meet the twin soul of your own soul well Edgar Cayce said in the very beginning that we were one it's very much like Plato's story remember he made it a physical oneness like a round ball well Edgar Cayce says that we were spiritually one

we were androgynous and then there's a long story about why we came into the body we were given charge of this planet we came into the body and we became too wrapped up in the sensual forces that were evident in the animals a necessity to separate so that he said there was a negative force and a positive force he said that the women a woman is usually the negative force and she may choose to be this throughout the ages and twin souls as I understand it they come together about every third life that is this man and wife we don't have a little book on twin souls tonight but he pointed out so often that when for instance a brother and sister would be twin souls there's so much suppressed emotion it clicks so to speak but about every third lifetime he said that every time that we were in a deep sleep if we choose to go out of the body that you can be one with the beloved of the spirit that this is of the true mate you go through all the lives

with this particular person that the twin soul could be the mother could be a mother and son it could be brother and sister sometimes it could even be of the same sex but David and Jonathan were twin souls but it is a relationship that carries out in every plane of consciousness and he said again that every time we leave the body if we so choose that we can be with the other portion of our entity Cayce's own twin soul was so he pointed out Gladys Davis Turner and she's been with him in so many lifetimes and in this lifetime she was quite a young girl when she came into his life so he was like a father to her and we have been together in many lives and he said that when we're getting toward the end of a long cycle of lives in the earth that we have this sense of awareness he said if you believe in reincarnation in our culture you are an old soul if you believe in twin souls you're a very old soul this starts out and says that Adamski

I think the party perhaps means that Edgar Cayce ever say anything in regards to an entity's bad habits as one who may drink too much etc. well Cayce always had quite a different way of looking at things in readings it astonishes you when you remember that this man actually had a third grade education Tom Chigurh says eighth but I read his diary he says third he said what was the last part of that question Lee? the bad habits he said for instance I remember in one reading a woman came to Edgar Cayce and she was very incensed because her husband at Christmas time she said drank a little too much too much of spirits Edgar Cayce pointed out that in the very last lifetime that she had she'd had the same resentment and she was building it up again and he said that unless she stopped this that she herself could be an alcoholic now this is just the opposite that anyone else would say she was building up resentment and resentment actually builds the thing

she was working at the Cayce headquarters she was an alcoholic and under the influence of alcohol she would walk out into the backyard Gina told me with no clothes on or something like this Cayce gave her a reading it's one of the most interesting readings I've ever seen in the files he said that in a very recent life she was in the court of Louis XIV and she was a person who became quite self-righteous perhaps because she was insecure she was an illegitimate child she was going to condemn others she actually prayed for everyone in the court but she prayed by condemning them and finally she felt herself so righteous that she betook herself to a nunnery and he said that here this was a constant pattern of condemning all the weaknesses of others and in this lifetime she had built it up of course it could be alcoholism for instance could carry over several lives there are many psychological reasons but Cayce often pointed out

that what we resent and what we condemn that can become a part of us do you know if Edgar Cayce ever mentioned flying saucers? yes yes he did at one time at least I think I brought out in the very beginning that he said that every galaxy had environs he didn't say spiritual beings but apparently beings of fine abidance he said that we ourselves when we come to the place of soul development when we come into the earth that we will go through the port of call of Arcturus that this is the port of call and he said love was the way out but again he mentioned that in every single galaxy of planets there are many beings now he didn't talk about flying saucers but he did see one one I think must have been a flying saucer it was during the just before Hugh Lynn and his brother went to war World War II and Cayce was heartbroken in a sense on this particular day he was out working in the garden and suddenly he looked up and he saw this huge saucer light

it was bright red it was a brilliant white light right above him and he took it to mean that he would not again see his sons which he didn't but as he looked it seemed very real to him and he came in and Hugh Lynn said he came inside the kitchen and he was shaking and he said Hugh Lynn it was round it was saucer shaped and I think he saw a flying saucer I want to ask Jessica several questions that we had written down here and I must admit that I was doing some work myself in the other room and I didn't hear all of the content of the various talks we've had here this evening so I'd like to ask Jessica at this time if she will say something about karma the part it plays in our lives and how it may be resolved and there are a few more questions that I'd like to ask her and then we'll conclude the meeting Jessica well where karma is concerned you might say everything in a sense is karma but there's also very good karma once Edgar Cayce

received a letter he didn't know the girl didn't give her profession she was one of the top models in New York City but she modeled her hands and at that time they were considered the most beautiful hands in the world she didn't use her professional name when she wrote the letter she signed her own name I'll say Betty Smith when Cayce gave her the reading he said that in her recent life she had been a nun and she had been what he called a lowly nun one without any credentials one who was with an academic school one who had none of the abilities to teach and so on so they had put her to work at scrubbing floors and this was her job all day and finally when she'd start to scrub she would start to bless her hands and she would say these are God's hands and these are a channel for others and because of this she came back into the body with very beautiful hands this was something that she had earned and he said that sometimes when people are very lonely

it seems that they go through many years perhaps being lonely Cayce said that sometimes we enter into the body just for the reason of taking say a period of three to five years where we are lonely and we are alone if we have committed suicide in a past incarnation he said in one reading that once it was a fashion for instance in China many women many men were committing suicide because the woman may have felt herself rejected the man may have felt a loss of face but he said when we commit suicide and he was a man named Lincoln who definitely had been a suicide I'm sure he had much melancholy when you come back into the body and you are ready to and you are ready to pay off this karma there is a period when you are very much alone I know because I'm a suicide a period when everyone seems to go out of your life they go out very quickly as a rule it's almost like a pattern and he said that this was the purpose that we might learn

that we must never again take our lives you don't take on the pattern of suicide for instance until you are a very old soul until you are getting ready he said to go out of the body and in one reading he said because you have taken yourself out of the lives of others when you were greatly needed others have been taken from you he gave karmic reasons for every disease he said that tuberculosis for instance was a matter of having over indulged many lifetimes there is a certain types of TB many lifetimes in great sexual activity but also we know that many of the saints the so called catholic saints died of TB and again there is the attempt of the soul to balance so that almost everything is a part of the past and again this little book on sex reincarnation and karma in that book we take all of the karmic patterns and many of the karmic patterns whenever we say why does this happen why is my child born blind nearly always always he said that this is karma

when we cry out for the reason child is born blind because he blinded I have a friend who is a very dear friend a woman who was very much concerned because her favorite child was retarded she didn't know it for a long time they were in China and intellectual he is the tops but his brother was even greater than he and she told me that when she was just married to him that they would all sit at the dinner table together and they would talk above her and she went ahead and got her PhD and they still talked above her and sometimes her mother in law would say oh please Dorothy go outside and probably talk together we have so much to discuss when they were in China she said the first two children were her husband they were just like him in every way they made her feel inferior so she began to pray that God would send her a child please God send me my special child a little boy was born and from the very moment that she held him in her arms

she knew that this was her baby she said until he was two and a half years old that every time that she would turn around and look at him his eyes would be welling with love for her and she felt that this was the greatest blessing that she could have one day when he was three she said he was a little slow in speaking but that was all she noticed when he was three years old she took him with her on a picnic and all afternoon he just clung to her and she brought him back home that night and when she was undressing him for bed he suddenly put his arm around her and he just hugged her he wouldn't let her go and she looked at him his eyes were just so filled with love she put him in bed and she said the most peculiar thing happened she could never understand it because he was staring at her in a perfectly blank manner it was as if he had kissed her goodbye as if he had gone when her husband came home she mentioned this blank expression

and two days later they took him to the top hospital in Hong Kong and after many tests they discovered that he would never be normal because his brain was the size of an egg and she said that the doctors there tried to tell her that he had never been normal that he had always been blank and it wasn't true because he spoke to her with his eyes he didn't speak very well at all he tried to speak and then many years later she had a dream and she dreamed that she was in China and that her son was her husband and that at that time her husband was her son and she said that in the dream that her husband, the present husband had hurt his head many centuries ago they decided to put him aside and she knew in that moment that she had come into this intellectually proud family because she herself had been intellectually proud and one day when she was sitting at the piano playing she is an accomplished musician in fact she is also a composer

she said as if it were a dream she suddenly looked up and saw the Chinese man her son, the one who is retarded now he was standing beside her but he was exactly like the husband in her dream and his eyes were filled with this love and she said that she believed with all of her heart and soul that he had come into the body and had been with her and for this short time had been able to give her all of this love but she was sure after this experience that even though they were separated that he wasn't able to look at her and know who she was that she said that when she slept that she was with him and she knew that this was a love that would go on forever Do we choose our own lives as individuals and also do we choose our own parents? I believe Casey certainly said that we choose our own parents and we choose the exact moment and time of birth and more than that we choose on the other side the pattern of our lives and what we want to accomplish

and for a long time I was a secretary to Unity and I wanted to understand because many times the leaders or the founders something of the group would be suffering more problems than all the other people everyone else would be getting everything and so on but what is the last part of that question about do we choose our own lives yes well Edgar Casey once said that when we come into the body we have this pattern for instance if we've always been very selfish in a certain area we might be very selfish and say this I will work out this I will learn in this lifetime but say that you're a young woman of 24 and you're very much alone you might pray constantly or affirm constantly for the husband on a conscious level but if I understand Casey correctly the super conscious is still much more aware and this is one reason why prayer isn't answered because the super conscious has its own purpose and when it's a result of a conflict

between the conscious and the super conscious then apparently the super conscious takes over he always took the long view this is one very short life and you have a thousand lives he would often say to someone who was experiencing marriage difficulty if you leave the husband at this moment and don't work out the calming pattern which you chose to work out before you came into the body you're simply going to meet it over here maybe 100 years, 200 years, 300 years later in this way he took the long view now the question do we decide when to reincarnate and when to exit from this life well as I understand it you do I think it was Larry who said that that those people who are now at the place where they are interested for instance in what I believe he meant to be out of space activity different concepts such as reincarnation and life after death that you are to the place where you choose your own lives as I understand it, coming in at a very rapid rate of speed.

And once again, you are also choosing the purpose of your life. And even Casey said just this, because it probably relates to you. He said that in this very lifetime, this is a testing life for many, many people, not just for us, but all over the world. And he said that some of us are beginning now the world work or the great work which we will accomplish in the next lifetime. And in this way, they carry through. Years ago, with Ken Brolin, I was very much interested in learning of past lives. And Ken and Gina Seminero and I worked with hypnosis. And I mean by that, very, very deep hypnosis. And to my amazement, I found out if you find yourself a little Chinese girl several thousand years ago, and in my instance, terribly in love with my husband, and he's going to leave me for my sister and so forth, it is still me, and it isn't any different. Or if I find myself an actress at the time of Charles II, and very extroverted, where at the time I began the experiment,

so I was very introverted, it is always myself. For all of us, it's as if when you're five years old, if you could go back to that moment, say your birthday when you were five, you was very much you. Although now you may be quite different seemingly, but it is the same soul, and we do carry the same pattern throughout the ages. I might like to ask one more question of Jessica, mentioning about her past lives. Would she give us a few more highlights of her past lives? You let me tell a young man's story. Well, I'll tell you my favorite story, and Lee nearly always asks me to tell it, because to me it was fantastic. It was a great start on my life that Edgar Cayce did not give me a reading. I have a reading now that I'm quite sure is my own. It's for someone with my daughter. It's for my birthday, but when I first came into the work, I tried, I'd say for six years, in meditation to get a past life, and I don't know why I never got a past life.

I just didn't. I think I was trying too hard. And one day I went and had a tooth pulled, and they used sodium pentothal, which was just then coming into existence. And I came home, and something had gone wrong, and I never had such pain in my life. And that night, I think I took, oh, a whole box full of aspirin, that is 12, 20, or something like that. And in the middle of the night, I was suddenly aware of Edgar Cayce beside me. He was just sitting on a couch beside me. I saw him as plainly as I see anyone in this room. And he said, Jessica, if you will look up at the light on the ceiling, there was a tiny bit of moonlight coming in, it was striking the ceiling, and stare at this for one minute, the pain will go away. And I did, and it went away miraculously. From then on, it seemed very natural to me, perhaps it was all the aspirin, for him to be there. He told me about some psychological problem that I was having,

and he related it to my, well, discord, I guess, with my foster mother, when I was only a little girl about five years old. And he was right on this, and he simply began to turn pages. I seemed to be looking at a great book. And when he would turn the pages, I would see the past. One of the pages did relate to a life as a nun, and certain things that were not right at that time, and certain things that I was meeting the present. Over and over and over again, it seemed a sense of suicide came in that particular experience. I'd taken myself out of the life of others, and I was very lonely at that time. And finally, he said to me, I am going to give you something that you can check. I am going to give you something that you can check. And I said, well, I'm going to give you something that you can remember. And as if I was seeing a huge Technicolor picture, I saw a girl in a white satin dress. I remember it was so full and beautiful, quite low in front.

And she was running down a hand-painted stairway. Until this day, I can see every design on that stairway. I watched her as she went outside into the English fog, and she got into a sedan chair. And I was a little amazed. This girl was so, what I would say, extroverted, so exuberant. I remember at that time, I was so much afraid of ever saying ten words to anyone, almost, that when Peter Bulbush asked me to give a three-minute talking class, I phoned three Unity ministers and asked them to pray for me. I was simply all withdrawn. As I watched this girl, he suddenly said to me, he said, I said, Jessica, you were one of the six. Six ministers surrounding Charles II. Surrounding is a peculiar word. He didn't say six what? Six ministers? Nothing. He just didn't say. The next day, I went to the library, and I wasn't very good on English history. And I thought he must mean Bonnie Prince Charlie, and that wasn't it.

I found that wasn't the right period. And finally, I found Charles II of England. And when I read about Charles II, it said that he was a wraith and he was a rogue. And I said, well, I couldn't possibly. I couldn't possibly have known anyone like that. That's just not true. Edgar Cayce was wrong. I must have known Charles I. Forgot about it because I didn't want to remember anything about having known a wraith and a rogue. One day, my old Chinese friend and I went to the museum. We went actually to see a Leonardo da Vinci collection. Leonardo, of course, preceded Charles II period by some 200 years. But when we walked up the steps, I said, I said, Suzanne, I'm going to see myself. As well. And once I was, I was absolutely positive. And all afternoon, we went from one painting to another, one Leonardo to another. And nothing struck home. Nothing had any meaning at all. It was 10 minutes of time. And as soon as he said, let's go through the Marion Davies collection.

And we walked almost at dusk through the Marion Davies collection. And way in the very back of the room was a small painting. And when I saw this painting, I started to cry. Even before I got there. And when I got there, stood there and looked at her, it said, so and so, mistress of Charles II. Now, the amazing thing was that this girl was a girl who was very outgoing, very loving and so forth. But as I stood and looked at her, I knew all the sorrows of her life. I knew everything that got her great unhappiness. I can't explain it. I just knew. I even knew exactly how she died, what she really died of. And no book has ever mentioned what she died of. They give us something quite different that she died of. I went to the library that very night and found a little book on this particular girl. She was an actress. And I brought it home. And my husband didn't believe in reincarnation at the time. I left it on the coffee table.

And after we had dinner, I was in the kitchen washing dishes. And Jim came in about 10 minutes and he was carrying the book. And he said, honey, have you read about this person? I said, I certainly have. But just a little. And he said, well, I've been reading. And he said, I want to tell you that I have to believe in reincarnation. For heaven knows there can't be two of them. And what the writer had brought out, it was little things. Like, you know, her hair was never just the way it should be. Her hair was too low and so forth. A lot of little things. She would forget things and so on. And many of those things that I had. I went to Virginia Beach. I'll tell you who it was. I have to. It doesn't mean a thing. You can say, well, she's crazy. I went to Virginia Beach fully looking for Charles II because this girl was Nell Wynn. And I thought that Edgar Cayce must be Charles II. And the final thing that he said to me in the experience that I had when I had the very painful toothache,

he said that when you know this, it will help many, many, many people. One day I went over to Williamsburg when I was in Virginia. I was staying at Virginia Beach. And I came across a portrait of Charles II. And as I stood there and looked at this portrait, a strangest thing happened. I was standing there saying, you're Edgar Cayce. And I was with you centuries ago. You're Edgar Cayce. And as I was saying this, suddenly an entirely different picture, entirely different portrait, entirely different face that I knew well, superimposed upon the picture. And I couldn't believe it because this man was the minister. A minister of a very great church. When I came back to Los Angeles, I wrote him a letter, a 22-page letter, I think, telling all about this experience. I knew that he was Charles II. When I came back to Los Angeles, I was sitting on the very top row of his tremendous church. And he started to speak.

And he said, I do believe in reincarnation, but I know that I was always an humble person. I just don't understand these people who think they were famous. I don't know who they were in the past. It's a good point. But every Sunday when I went there, he said that. So I thought, oh, my goodness, why did I write him? Why did I think he would understand it all? This went on for a year and a half. And his assistant minister said one day, Jessica, he's changing his mind. They had sent for some books all the way from England. And this man had five different secretaries on his staff. And my friend opened one picture after another. About three of them. And they were working for him. They were this exact image. Casey says we usually often look alike. The nose may change. The eyes may be a little different color. But we often look alike. And then came Christmas Eve. And I went to a special meeting at the church just before Christmas Eve.

There were a lot of people coming out, shaking hands with him. And he called me. He said, Jesse, please come by. Stay a moment. And I was the last person in line. And he took my hand. He was quite dramatic. And he said, Jesse. I want you to know that I was that terrible man. And you were that terrible woman. Well, the thing that came out of it. This man has written since then two books on reincarnation. And he's been very, very specific. He had at that time a TV show, a radio program, and so on. He's been able to contact thousands and thousands of people. Whereas I would contact just a few. And apparently, because he. He believed it. And because it became so much a part of him. This belief in reincarnation came through his writings. And this was my first real experience in discovering the past life.

Most unusual beginning. And I hope that you people will spread the word about this. And come back again. And thank you again for coming. Good night.
