[00:00] Opening remarks and introduction
Here we go again, flying saucers. What are they? Well, I don't know. Even after a three-hour conversation with a so-called expert on the subject, I still don't know. But there is a convention of flying saucer addicts coming up next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 11th and 12th, at Giant Rock out in the Yucca Valley. And since this has proven to be a very popular occasion in the last four years, well, maybe you'd like to be there, just out of curiosity. Our guest now is one of the leading authorities on the subject, seeing as how he claims to have had personal contact with one of these evasive, mysterious objects commonly known as unidentified flying. No one in true authority seems to want to talk about these things. Things? I guess that's what you'd call them. But our guest doesn't mind. So let's hear him out, after which you're invited to drink. Your own conclusions. Hmm? Well, I don't know about you, Jack, but for me, no comment. This is
Daniel W. Fry, who has consented to tell us about next weekend's big flying saucer convention. Well, as has been stated, it will be at Giant Rock, which is an airport previously used by the Army as an emergency airport, and now taken over by George Van Tassel. It is an annual event, where each year the number of persons in attendance approximately doubles over the year before. We are expecting this year about 15,000 people. What do you do out there? Well, there are discussions of all subjects pertaining to the phenomenon known as flying saucers or spacecraft. There are lectures by persons who
have had personal experiences with these objects, and there are also discussions on related subjects.
Well, now, Mr. Fry, you have become... through the years... known as somewhat of an authority on unidentified flying objects or spacecraft? In fact you have written a book or two, haven't you? Yes, I have written three books. Oh, yeah? There you have them. What are they called? Uh, the White Sands Incident, Two Men of Earth and Steps to the Stars. Uh, give us a little bit of your background in your technical field and so forth, will you? Well, I have been interested in rocketry for quite a number of years. years. I was employed first by the California Institute of Technology in a canyon plant when the first military rockets were produced for the United States Army and Navy. I have worked for the Aerojet Engineering Corporation for a matter of some six and a half years, again in the development of rockets. And I am now employed by the Crescent Engineering Research Company, which is engaged in producing components and control instrumentation for
jet aircraft and rockets. Would you mind repeating the experience you yourself had back in 1950 with, let's call it a flying saucer? Yes, I'll be happy to attempt that. It's something that's difficult to do in such a limited time. It was actually the observance of a craft,
a material object. Metallic in nature, descending through the atmosphere and touching down upon the ground near the base at White Sands. Until I mustered up courage to approach it. How large was it?
I was approximately 30 feet in diameter and about 16 feet in height. And then this voice from someplace in that spaceship invited you to come aboard. I was in communication with some sort of intelligence. And of course, as you well imagine, I became very, very full of questions. And what did the voice sound like? It used the English language and the American idiom. It sounded much like any technician
[04:00] Bill Cunningham interviews Daniel Fry
might have sounded, had it been one of our own technicians operating the craft. When you got aboard this spacecraft, did you see this creature or whoever it was? No, I never saw the intelligence of the individual which was operating this craft. It was stated to me what the individual was. A much larger craft at a very considerable distance, about 900 miles above the surface. But this craft was a remotely controlled object. All right, then. You said that you were invited to ride along on a short trip in this craft. Tell us about that, will you? Well, I was invited to make this trip for the purpose of proving to me that it was a craft which was capable of things that none of our craft here on Earth of the day were capable of. The trip was made to and over the city of New York and return. The trip was at night. I was shown only the light pattern of the city from the elevation of about 20 miles, which involved a total trip on the round trip, the total distance of about 8,000 miles.
What was the sensation you had when you accelerated so fast and traveled so fast? Great speed? There was no sensation of acceleration at all. This is a problem that requires some explanation. I doubt whether we have the time here, but basically the craft was accelerated by a force field, which acted equally upon every atom of mass, both of the craft itself and of all matter that was within it. So there was no displacement of any matter, no strain set up, and consequently no feeling of acceleration. When you got back to White Sands after this trip of approximately half an hour to New York and back, what happened? I was requested to leave. I took about a dozen fairly rapid steps. And, you know, I was asked to leave. And, you know, I was asked to leave. And, you know, I was asked to leave. And, you know, I was asked to leave. And, you know, I was asked to leave. And I was asked to leave. And I was asked to leave. And when I had been turned, I turned just in time to observe
an orange-colored band of light appear about the rightest portion of the craft, and the craft shot upward as though it had been released from a catapult. At which point you probably pinched yourself pretty hard or determined that you had lost your mind completely. As a matter of fact, I have been pinching myself ever since. What was your final conclusion when you, say, woke up the next morning? Well, my final conclusion was reserved for passage. Okay. Yeah. Well, that's what we did. We did it. several years on that I did the possibility of hallucination, of dream, of temporary insanity
and a number of other possibilities that would enable me to accept this thing as something other than real. After examining the circumstances surrounding it, however, I found that this was not an adequate explanation, that the only explanation which would completely explain all of the facts which I knew existed around it was an extraterrestrial. I shake my head and go, what can you believe? I can't say whether it's been an education
or not. Well, unless I don't know, any person has been educated when his mind has been open to possibilities. Could you give us a good idea of how to get to Giant Rock from Los Angeles? The best way is to take the San Bernardino Freeway through San Bernardino with Beaumont
and Banff. From Banning to about 12 miles below Banning to the road that turns off to 29 Palms. You take that road to the town of Yucca and through the town of Yucca. About two miles beyond the town there is a turnoff, the Lucerne Valley Road, also known as the Victorville Highway. And you take that road and from there on you will be guided by science. Now this Flying Saucer Convention is going to be Saturday and Sunday of May 11th and 12th. Right. Yes, that is right. Any special hours, Dan? No, there will be something during all of the time. There are always a very large number of people who arrive before the convention, sometimes weeks, and very many people come there for the benefits of the air and climate and the silence and the relaxation, even though they have no specific interest in the spacecraft. Everyone is urged to bring food, water, and sleeping bags if you wish to remain overnight. Take care.
See you tomorrow, Joe. Tempest or no, you won't be wondered. We will have an edge
onqué nine. Bye.
